Q: How do I get paint out of my carpet?

A: The best thing to use to get paint out of carpet is to chip off any large dry paint with butter knife. Then use an old towel or hand towel with DW-40, white vinegar or nail polish remover. Gently dab the paint, don’t not rub. Be sure not to use to much or you lighten that piece of carpet. It is always a good idea to spot test your carpet in an area that is not so visable.

Q: Will I need to move out while painting?

A: You will not need to move out while your painting job is completed, furniture is temporarily moved, carpets/ are sticky filmed and we use a no-odour additive to reduce the smell emitted from the paint.

Q: How long does it take to paint my house?

A: Depends on the size of your home. You will be advised of the planned timefrime of your paint job during our free assessment and quote. If you require the work to be done within a specific timeframe we can a number of painters just for you.

Q: Does the paint smell?

A: Yes paint does smell but we use a no-odour additive in our paints to minimise the smell.

Q: What sort of protection do you use for carpet and flooring?

A: Pride Contractors uses Sticky Film; a very tough plastic sticky tape that rolls out over carpet and floor to cover and protect. For exteriors we use a combination of drop sheets and heavy PVC sheets to cover.

Q: Do I need to move my all my furniture and belongings out for preparation and painting of the interior of my house?

A: You do not need to move furniture and belongings out of the house, but we will need to move it into middle of the room or into another room.

Q: Is there a lot of dust and fumes when painting and plastering interiors?

A: We use a dustless sanding method and a no-odour additive in our paints.

Q: Can you price my job per m2?

A: Yes we can. We can give you a quote over the phone. however, some areas may require additional prep work once we have visited your property to assess your requirements in more detail. In this case you will be informed of any additional charges before any work commences.

Q: Can you work to my budget?

A: This is not a problem we price by m2. After viewing and an assessment we can advise you what work can be completed while staying within your budget.

Q: Can you work weekends or evenings?

A: Most definitely! We will do our best to fit in with your schedule whether it means evening or weekend work required.

Q: When is the best time to paint?

A: If you are painting exteriors through winter it is best to paint from 10am-1pm. Summer 8am-4pm. Interior is all year round night or day we use heating as required to create the prefect drying condition.

Q: What is the best type of paint?

A: The best paint is not necessarily the most expensive, it depends on what surface you are trying to paint. Pride Contractors can advise you of the best paint type to use for your project.

Q: How do I get paint off my timber work without damaging it?

A: A large amount of paint removal requires a bit of force, heat, or solvent-based paint stripper. Apply mentholated spirits or linseed oil to a rag and wipe until the paint comes off. Always wipe with the grain of the timber.

Q: How do I prep my walls ready to paint?

A: Dust, clean and vacuum all areas, fill all wholes, sand smooth, use dish watering liquid or soapy water mop walls, then mop again with just water. Once dry your walls are ready for priming or painting.

Q: How long does the paint last?

A: Generally the paint will last 5 - 10 yrs. This timeframe can change depending on how many coats are applied and how well the paint work is looked after.

Q: How much paint will I need to paint a house?

A: Depending on the size of the house, existing condition of paint and if you are changing colours this could be anywhere from 40L – 120L for a standard one story exterior. Recommended coverage is 10L of paint per 60m2 per coat.

Q: Will I need to get scaffolding to paint my house?

A: We provide scaffolding for multi level or difficult to reach areas if required.

Q: Do I need to cut or dig up plants/trees from the base of my house to paint?

A: 99% of the time we will be able to work around gardens and trees or can tie them back without causing any damage. If there is an area of painting that requires pruning of plants we use local professionals A Class Lawns & Gardens to ensure a job well done.

Q: What happens if some timber is rotten or metal areas are rusty or corroded?

A: If an area is rotten, rusty or corroded it will need to be replaced or prepped correctly to remove affected area before preparation and painting commences.

Q: How many coats do I need on my house?

A: The number of coats on your house really depends on the condition of the exisitng paint, and if you are changing the colour. 2-5 coats is standard.

Q: Do I need to strip off all paint before repainting?

A: You will need to strip paint back to bear surface if any type of lifting is happening with paint to get a longer lasting finish.

Q: How do I stop paint from sticking when windows or doors close?

A: Using enamel is the preferred option as this dries solidly and does not adhere to other painted surfaces it may come in to contact with.

Q: How do I know when it is time to paint my house?

A: The easiest way to tell is if the paint is chalking, splitting, wearing down to under coats, rust marks are bleeding through paint, cracks or gaps appear in the paint anywhere.

Q: Will paint keep my house water tight?

A: Yes when prepared and applied correctly.

Q: Can I paint over stain?

A: Yes, you will need to use enamel primer.

Q: Can I paint concrete?

A: Yes, you will need to coat it with concrete sealer after checking the moisture level of concrete. This should be 10% or less on a moisture meter. Do not paint your concrete if the moisture meter reads more than 10%. Waterproof paints are no good as they are a latex based. Efflorescence will build up under the paint and ruin your concrete forcing you to repaint.

Q: Can I paint plastic?

A: Yes, correct preparation will be required before you paint.
